FUNERARY MAUSOLEUM

In October 2008 in Rome, during the preliminary excavations for the construction of some buildings on the Via Flaminia, it was found a large monumental complex perfectly preserved where archaeologists have immediately recognized the tomb of Marcus Nonius Macrinus, a general Roman era Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

The discovery of the funerary mausoleum, in the shape of a small temple, about 15 meters high and covered with marble, was built by the son of Macrino and has attracted the attention of national and international media because of the words that archaeologists have compared the life of General to that of the fictional character "Maximum Tenth Meridio," she starred in Ridley Scott's film Gladiator, because of the similarities between the political and military careers and the coincidence with the historical period of membership.

PS: Marcus Nonius Macrinus was a Roman general of Emperor Marcus Aurelius during the northern wars against the Marcomanni, Quadi and Sarmatians iazyges. It was suffectus consul in 154 during the rule of Antoninus Pius, and later many times proconsul.
